Warranty Requests

With Docusnap, warranty data for Windows systems from the following manufacturers can be retrieved automatically:

  • Asus
  • Cisco
  • Dell
  • Fujitsu
  • HP
  • IBM
  • Lenovo
  • Toshiba

The warranty request process operates independently of Windows inventory and is executed as a separate process.

Warranty Request Workflow

  1. Windows Inventory

    • Inventory performed via the Docusnap Server, the Docusnap Discovery Service, or the Docusnap Client.
    • Import of inventory data created using the autonomous discovery module Discovery-Windows.exe.
  2. Warranty Request

    • The warranty request process does not occur during Windows inventory but is executed separately as a background job.
    • The request is triggered for all systems without existing warranty information.
    • On a monthly basis, the warranty request is repeated for systems whose warranty will expire within the next six months.
    • The duration of the request can range from a few minutes to several hours, depending on the manufacturer and the number of systems.
    • The scope of the request may be limited by restrictions imposed by the manufacturers.

Warranty Request as a Background Process

  • After completing a Windows inventory, a parallel background process is started to handle the warranty request.
    This background process runs on the Docusnap Server, the Docusnap Discovery Service, or the Docusnap Client, depending on which one performed the inventory.
  • Therefore, it is not necessary to configure a Docusnap Server or Docusnap Discovery Service to utilize the warranty request feature.

Manual Warranty Request

  • Warranty requests can be manually initiated for specific systems via the context menu.
    • Workstations/Servers: In the Workstations or Servers section, the warranty request can be manually started for a specific system.
    • Warranties (under Infrastructure): Alternatively, the request can be triggered in the Warranties section under Infrastructure for the desired system.

Technical Details of the Warranty Request

  • Warranty requests are executed via the Docusnap365 environment:
    • Endpoint: https://docusnap365.com/api/ds-dispatcher
    • No data is stored permanently. The data is merely transformed and forwarded to the manufacturers’ endpoints.

Disabling Warranty Requests

The execution of warranty requests can be disabled in the Options dialog of Docusnap if necessary. This prevents warranty requests from being automatically triggered or offered in the context menu for updates.
