As an alternative to inventory using the wizard, the autonomous Discovery module can be used. This is executed directly on the DNS server and generates a result file that is subsequently imported into Docusnap via the File Import.

The following modules are available for inventorying DNS systems:

Discovery-DNS.exe (This module is always up-to-date and should be used preferably.)
Discovery-DNS-Legacy.exe (corresponds to the state of Docusnap 12 and is no longer being developed)

For a complete capture of all relevant data during DNS inventory, it is necessary to run the Discovery-DNS.exe module with local administrator rights and, depending on the data to be captured, with additional permissions for Active Directory.

The Discovery-DNS.exe module can be executed either by double-clicking or via the DNS server’s command line. After the inventory is completed, a DSI file is created in the folder where the Discovery-DNS.exe is located, which contains all the information.
